Well, they’ve done it again.  A brave spy from over at JoesPlace has uncovered the song spoilers for tonight’s episode of American Idol.  The theme for this week is “Songs From the Year You Were Born” which basically adds up to an 80’s theme (every member of American Idol’s Top 8 was born in the eighties save for Allison Iraheta, who was birthed in 1992).  Below you can find the spoilers complete with my analysis.  There are some good decisions being made, as well as a couple of very bad ones.

As always, these spoilers are rumors and not confirmed by any means, so, you know, take them with a grain of salt.

Along with the spoilers, I’ve embedded YouTube videos of each song for your viewing pleasure.

Kris Allen – “Heaven” by Bryan Adams

It’s a slow, cheesy ballad.  I mean, it’s Bryan Adams.  That’s all he did.  The chorus is nice and anthemic, which should translate well to the American Idol stage. I’m interested to see what Kris does with it.

Lil Rounds – “Let’s Hear It For the Boy” by Deniece Williams

Lil, what the hell are you doing?  From the Footloose soundtrack, this is a song that drunk sorority girls karaoke in hellacious sounding groups.  Maybe she’ll pull it off, but I doubt it.  It’ll probably be another shout-fest from Lil, which no one wants.

Adam Lambert – “Edge of Seventeen” by Stevie Nicks

Of course Adam Lambert would sing a Stevie Nicks song.  Since we have no idea what direction Adam will take this song, we might as well just wait and see.  I like the song, but am a little wary of what Adam will do with it.

Scott MacIntyre – “You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago

Very predictable song choice, though it should work for Scott’s brand of suckitude.  It’s slow, really corny, and a song that I just hate.  In other words – perfect for Scott.

Anoop Desai – “Who’s Johnny” by El DeBarge

Easily the worst song choice of the night. It’s from the Short Circuit soundtrack. That’s all you need to know.  Just by song choice, Anoop is the favorite to go home.

Matt Giraud – “Part Time Lover” by Stevie Wonder

This is Matt going back to his wheelhouse.  Should be great.

Allison Iraheta – “Tears in Heaven” by Eric Clapton

Definitely a ballsy song choice.  It could be great, it could be a disaster.

Danny Gokey – “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen

I actually love this song choice for Danny.  He’ll be able to nail it vocally, and it’s more fun than any of the songs he’s chosen previously.
