American Idol winner David Cook has announced an official release date for his debut album. In order to get the album out in time for the holidays, Cook moved up the release date to Tuesday, November 18. There is no official name for the album just yet (though I suspect it might be self-titled), but that information should be released within the next month or so. Cook’s record will be released on the 19 Entertainment/RCA Records label, the same recording companies that are so closely linked to American Idol. David Cook enlisted award-winner Rob Cavallo for producing duties on his album. Cavallo has produced for such big names as Green Day, Kid Rock and Eric Clapton.
Before any David Cook purists blast me – yes, I know that David Cook recorded a couple of independent albums before appearing on American Idol. His upcoming album will still be considered his debut album, as it is his first mainstream record placed into wide release. You can expect “The Time of My Life,” David Cook’s first single, to be found on the upcoming record. Hopefully, it will be the worst song on the album.
In other American Idol news, it was announced today that Kellie Pickler, season 5’s adorably dense blonde beauty, will help bring in the new year alongside Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark. Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest will once again air on ABC on New Year’s Eve starting at 10PM ET, and run for a very lengthy three and a half hours. Pickler will work as a special correspondent live on location in Times Square, where she will bring her special combination of down-home charm and cleavage. The highlight of the show will likely be Ryan Seacrest subtly mocking Pickler without her figuring out what’s going on.
