Every single male contestant is gone, including He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named, and the five remaining girls for the most part are bringing top-notch talent to the American Idol stage. It does seem obvious, though, who should go home. But it won’t really matter because there’s a 99.9% chance the Judges’ Save will be used tonight, no matter who receives the fewest number of votes. So let’s run through each contestant and see who’s most in danger of being in the Bottom 2 and who will have to “sing for survival.”

Candice Glover: She may have performed first, but I’m assuming Candice is still riding riding the wave from her exceptional rendition of “Lovesong,” which many have rightly called one of the best performances in the history of American Idol. This will keep her around for next week’s Top 5 Redux.
Janelle Arthur: Round 1 wasn’t particularly memorable for anyone. (The closest you could argue for is Candice because of her changed-up arrangement of “Straight Up.”) Fortunately, most everyone came out swinging in Round 2 and delivered performances that we’ll remember. I say most everyone — except for Janelle. She struck out with both her performances, and was the only one to do so. Plus, it doesn’t help that Keith Urban criticized her, and they’re in the same genre. If he didn’t even like it, things aren’t looking too good for her.
Kree Harrison: You never know when there will be a shocking elimination. And I’m always worried that someone like Candice or Kree will be the victim. While Kree performed in the middle of each round — this doesn’t always help because voters might not remember them as much — she continues to be the frontrunner. Any time Ryan Seacrest has revealed the Top 3 or Top 2, Kree has always been in that group. If she can keep that up, she may never be in danger.
Angie Miller: Ever since Angie stumbled a few weeks back, she’s been hit and miss. That happened again last night: she was fantastic on “Halo,” but kind of shaky on “I’ll Stand by You.” And I hate to say it in this way, but this week of all weeks may help Angie. She’s from the Boston area. And following Monday’s tragedy, she gave a shoutout at the start of her first performance and this Pretenders song was very fitting for the moment. She may have received votes based on where she’s from.
Amber Holcomb: Amber has had a hard time getting viewers to connect with her. She had the fortunate position of getting the pimp spot last night. To me, she had a shining moment with “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?” It’s hard to tell at this point if it can save her from being in the Bottom 2, but it most likely was enough to save her from elimination.

Bottom 2 Predictions: Janelle Arthur / Amber Holcomb
Elimination Prediction: Janelle Arthur — the Judges’ Save will be used no matter what.
Like I said before, no one’s going home tonight. I don’t see any way that they can put it off any longer. I think many of us were under the assumption the Save couldn’t be used any later than last week. But here we are, and it still hasn’t been put into play. So whether they extend it and save one of the girls or else just call it a non-elimination week, we can’t get around the fact that everyone’s safe, no matter how much Idol may try to make us believe someone’s going home.
