In an new interview, Mariah Carey is talking about her time as an American Idol judge — and she doesn’t have the nicest things to say about Nicki Minaj. Also in today’s Roundup, two new season 13 promos have been released. And you can now listen to Daughtry’s upcoming album before it’s even released.

Mariah Carey Compares Nicki Minaj to Satan
I know we all would like to forget season 12 — or least what went on at the judges’ table, that is. But I can’t resist bringing up an interview that Mariah Carey did with Hot 97 — and she had some choice words for her former co-worker. She said she “hated” the experience, especially since she signed on with the assumption there would only be three judges — then along came Nicki Minaj.
“Honestly, I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment, and I was like, ‘Okay … Randy Jackson will be there’ — you know, he used to play bass for me — ‘This isn’t a big deal. This will be nothing.'”
She went on to say that “It was like hell going to work every day in hell with Satan. I’m just playing; it didn’t affect me that much.” She may have added that she was “just playing,” but we all know she’s being serious here, that she does actually believes Satan is a worthy comparison to Nicki.
But what she fails to recognize is the fact that Nicki wasn’t the only one to cause trouble; Mariah herself was there too and very much fueled the tension and bickering, acting like a stuck-up diva the whole time.
Something else of interest from the interview is when Mariah brought up the whole producer manipulation aspect of the show. “It was disappointing when they would, for political reasons, not put people through.” We already know that all of these talent and singing competition shows have manipulation; she’s not breaking any new ground there. The producers are in charge of a TV show, so they’re looking at it from the angle of creating an entertaining show.

American Idol Season 13 Promos: “Different Reasons, Same Dream”
Two new season 13 promos have been released — and they’re getting me excited for the new season. The first one, called “Different Reasons, Same Dream” shows contestants holding up cards displaying their reason for auditioning — to express, to empower, to win — and other uplifting words and phrases.
The second brings the nostalgia factor. It showcases former winners and contestants, with footage of their time on Idol along with their successes afterwards. What we see in this video is the reason American Idol trumps all other singing competitions, regardless of the current TV climate for these shows. Idol is embedded into pop culture and the music business in a way that none of the others have been and the only one with a proven track record of producing successful artists. Listen to Daughtry’s New Album Baptized
As we’ve been reporting on for the past several weeks, Daughtry will be releasing a new album on November 19. We’ve heard a couple of the songs already, but what about the entire record? That’s right, VH1 is streaming every song from Baptized for free. So far, I’m really enjoying it and can’t wait to have it on a loop on my iPod. Take a listen below or click here to stream the album:
