The American Idol promos keep on coming. But this time, we’ve got one that aired in Australia, and it’s more dramatic than the ones we’re seeing in America. Also in today’s Roundup, an Idol winner and runner-up took home three American Country Awards. And Kelly Clarkson recently recorded a song with Jewel.

Mariah Carey to Nicki Minaj: “I’m Rebuking Her”
I guess if you go outside the United States, everything’s fair game in terms of shamelessly promoting the new season of American Idol. All of the promos that have aired so far have been upbeat and positive, showcasing that dreams can come true from this show. But in a promo that aired in Australia, they don’t seem to care about that. Instead, all the footage shows Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey butting heads, though there doesn’t seem to be any shots of the actual blowup heard round the world. Watching this video, I see slight smirks on Mariah’s face, almost as if they’re just having fun with each other instead of seriously at odds (similar to Simon and Paula).
But back in America, our newest promo is all sunshine and roses: “You can come from a small town or a big city. It doesn’t matter what you’ve been dealt. True talent always overcomes.”
Carrie Underwood & Lauren Alaina Win American Country Awards
Carrie Underwood came away as one of the big winners at this week’s American Country Awards. Luke Bryan swept the board with nine wins, but Carrie set a record of her own. According to a press release, “Following her two wins this year, Carrie Underwood has earned 11 ACA awards, the most ACA honors of any artist.” Those two categories are Artist of the Year: Female and Single of the Year: Collaboration for her duet with Brad Paisley on “Remind Me.”
Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina took home the prize for Artist of the Year: New Artist. And look who’s presenting the award to her — it’s none other than Scotty McCreery.
Kelly Clarkson & Jewel Team Up for “Foolish Games”
Kelly Clarkson recently dropped her first greatest hits album. But she’s venturing into similar territory again, just not for her own music. Jewel is getting ready for her own greatest hits release in February, and she’s bringing aboard Kelly to rerecord “Foolish Games.” Jewel said, “Kelly was amazing. She was a hoot to have in the studio. She had done ‘Foolish Games’ in several talent shows prior to American Idol, so she really knew it. I’m such a fan of her voice and love what she added to the song. She was so effortless on it. It’s neat to hear it in her new light.”
Jewel has posted online a behind-the-scenes video of her time in the studio, including recording with Kelly:
