America’s Got Talent ended its ninth season in September, with Mat Franco being crowned the winner. It was a summer full of strong talent, entertaining judges and, of course, one of the best hosts on TV.
BuddyTV spoke with Nick Cannon, where he discussed Franco and how big a deal it is that a magician won AGT for the very first time.
When the field was narrowed down to the Top 6 acts heading into the finals, we were left with four singing/musical acts (Quintavious Johnson, Emily West, Miguel Dakota and Sons of Serendip), a magician (Franco) and a dance troupe (AcroArmy). The odds were in the singers’ favor considering how many there were.
I asked Nick if it was obvious, looking at this group of six, that Franco would win, or if he thought it was a wide-open race in the finals. Can you easily predict the winner or is it too close to call on a show like AGT?
You can watch the entire interview below to find out his answer, and to see if next season he plans on pulling another stunt on the judges like when he dressed as a mime. That moment was definitely one of the biggest highlights of season 9, but can he pull one over on the judges a second time?
Nick also talked about his partnership with Samsung for their Ditch the DSLR campaign. He participated in an event this week where they attempted to set the Selfie World Record.
As if AGT and the Samsung campaign aren’t enough, he’s involved in other projects left and right, including Real Husbands of Hollywood. How does he have the time for all of it? Watch below to find out.
The Selfie World Record event that Nick talked about occurred after this interview took place, so how did it go?
I’m happy to report that Samsung did break the Selfie Relay Chain Guinness World Record. There were 283 consecutive selfies at the Ditch the DSLR event in Los Angeles, CA. Aside from Nick emceeing the event, Dancing with the Star‘s Julianne Hough stopped by as well.
Here is Nick taking a selfie with the crowd:
Samsung is donating $50,000 to the Habitat of Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA), which is a great cause. The money will go towards building and renovating homes for low-income individuals and families.
Here is Nick and Julianne with the check for Habitat LA while Samsung is being presented with the Guinness World Record certificate:
Nick Cannon can currently be seen on Real Husbands of Hollywood, which airs Tuesdays at 10pm on BET.
