When Sarah Hartshorne was eliminated from America’s Next Top Model, many fans were disappointed.
Some people loved the fact that she wasn’t a typically super-skinny model, and wanted Tyra Banks to walk her talk of expanding ideas about what body types are considered beautiful. Others weren’t so caught up in the deeper meaning behind all of it; they just thought her photographs were gorgeous and her personality was appealing.
Well, for either set of fans, there’s a chance coming up to see more of Sarah. Quite possibly a lot more.
Sarah will be joining The Boston Babydolls, a burlesque performing group based out of – you guessed it – Boston. Her burlesque persona is named Vita Lightly, and on December 15, she’ll be performing in “Brrrrlesque” with the group at The Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA.
The Boston Babydolls describe themselves as “ a troupe of performers devoted to burlesque — both classic and modern — and variety acts. Our members include fan dancers, sword swallowers, jugglers, tassle twirlers, and many more.” The in which Sarah will be appearing is billed as “a sexy celebration of all that’s best about winter! From snow flakes to holiday time, this show has it all. Better than presents, these lovely ladies unwrap themselves!”
Sarah will be performing two solo spots in the show. It would appear she is taking seriously some comments she made after editing of her comments in her final America’s Next Top Model episode made her seem uncomfortable with her fishnet outfit.
At the time, she said, “I want to make it clear that it is OK for someone my size to be dressed like that! I don’t want girls to see that and say, ‘Oh, gee, she’s uncomfortable, so I should be uncomfortable,’ too. I felt gorgeous! It was really fun and kind of a great role to get into, this dominatrix vampire.”
Beyond the obviously titillating and entertaining nature of the genre, much of modern-day burlesque is about doing much of what Tyra claims to want to do on America’s Next Top Model: promoting the idea that beauty can come in a lot of different packages. Sarah might not have made it to the top on the show, but she appears to be continuing to carry out that mission in real life.
