NBC has tapped Battlestar Galactica actor Michael Trucco to head the cast of its new comedy pilot called The Man of Your Dreams. The upcoming series revolves around a womanizer who helps out women who are having trouble in the love department.
The Man of Your Dreams is from writer Jay Lacopo and late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien’s production company, Conaco. Both Lacopo and O’Brien will serve as executive producers on the series, along with Jeff Ross and David Kissinger.
Production for the new comedy is set to begin as soon as the writers’ strike ends, and according to recent media reports, talks will resume after Thanksgiving. At this time, filming a pilot is next to impossible as all the television scribes have taken to the streets in protest.
The Man of Your Dreams will not be Michael Trucco’s first venture into the realm of sitcoms. He has guest-starred on such comedies as NBC’s Joey, The WB’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch and UPN’s The Parkers. His additional acting credits include One Tree Hill and Pensacola: Wings of Gold.
On Battlestar Galactica, Michael Trucco plays ensign Samuel Anders. Trucco joined the cast of the sci-fi series in 2005. Up until last Friday, the show had been filming its fourth and final season. However, like other television shows, they have been forced to shut down production because they have run out of scripts.
Over the weekend, Deadline Hollywood Daily reported that NBC Universal has suspended the contracts of the casts of such series as The Office, 30 Rock, Bionic Woman and Battlestar Galactica. The studio apparently exercised the force majeure clause on the actors’ Screen Actors Guild contracts.
The entertainment website also quoted an unnamed cast member of Battlestar Galactica as saying, “We are not terminated. We are on hold to Battlestar Galactica with no pay in perpetuity until the strike is over. When the strike does end Universal/Scifi will then decide whether they want to bring the show back or let us go… They say that since we have shot the minimum 13 episodes of this season, as per our contracts, that they are under no obligation to pay us or let us go. We are essentially on hiatus.”
The actors are reportedly planning to take legal action against the suspension.
The final season of Battlestar Galactica is scheduled to premiere in April.
