I thought the hot vampire quota had been filled for the millennium between Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder on The Vampire Diaries, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard on True Blood, as well as part favorites like David Boreanaz and James Marsters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Alex O’Loughlin in Moonlight. But I guess that wasn’t enough.
According to EW, former Smallville star Sam Witwer has been cast to play the vampire in SyFy’s remake of the BBC’s Being Human. If you’ve missed it, Being Human tells the story of a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost who live together in a tiny English flat.
Witwer is probably best known as the evil Doomsday from the eighth season of Smallville. He also appeared on SyFy’s Battlestar Galactica. Taking on the role of the female ghost will be Meaghan Rath whose credits include a bunch of Canadian shows.
The original Being Human will premiere its second season on BBC America July 24, though it originally aired on the BBC back in January. The original is also working on a third season.
Though remakes are usually a bad idea, this one is in good hands. The pilot is being written by the married team of Anna Fricke (Everwood, Privileged) and Jeremy Carver (writer of some of the best episodes of Supernatural).
Will you watch yet another hot vampire show?
