Amber and Daniele from Big Brother 8 won a trip out of the house a few weeks back during a Power of Veto competition. We soon learned that this trip involved some CBS cross-promotional goodness: the two were flown out to New York City to compete on the Drew Carey hosted game show Power of 10. Tonight, CBS aired the episode with Amber and Daniele in the hour before Big Brother. What happened? Well, there was lots and lots of crying.
For those unfamiliar with the particulars of Power of 10 (which I was before tonight), it goes a little something like this. Two contestants hit the center of the stage and face off against each other. Drew Carey asks them questions like “What percentage of Americans have had the IRS audit them?” The contestants guess what percentage of Americans they think have been audited. Whoever is closer to the actual percentage gets a point. Best out of five wins. Whoever wins the face-off heads to the money round. The first question is worth $1,000, and the players get a 40% range to play with when answering the questions. Next question is for $10,000 (30% range), the one after is for $100,000 (20% range), and so on all the way up to $10 million. If they get a question wrong, they revert back to their last money total. If they don’t feel confident answering, they walk away with what they’ve won.
So, Amber and Daniele. You’d think that Daniele would be the runaway favorite versus Amber, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Amber swept Daniele in their face-off. Before going to commercial, Amber predictably started bawling. Coming back to Power of 10 after commercial, the proceedings were Daniele-less and therefore far less aesthetically pleasing. Drew Carey tries to talk to Amber, but she’s crying too much and so Carey has to make fun of her. When her tears dry up momentarily, Carey asks Amber if it’s difficult being inside the house knowing that outsiders are scrutinizing her every move. In response, Amber says, “Honestly, I don’t know what scrutinize means.” You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
Amber easily answers her $1,000 dollar question and her $10,000 question. Now going for $100,000 Amber is a mess. She is crying, talking to God, looking confused and very scared. The question is this: “What percentage of Americans believe that people should not be allowed to own pit bulls?” Amber guesses low, too low, and loses. She heads back to the Big Brother house $1,000 richer. That’s a pretty good week for a cocktail waitress in Vegas.
