As with House, its network-mate on FOX, tonight’s Bones is the penultimate episode in the current season, shortened by the three-month long writers’ strike from November 2007 to February 2008. American Idol‘s Ace Young and Brandon Rogers guest star in tonight’s offering entitled “The Wannabe in the Weeds.”
Here’s a look at what tonight’s Bones will look like, as well as snippets from an interview with star Emily Deschanel, conducted by USA Today.
On “Wannabe in the Weeds” this evening, Brennan (Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) investigate the murder of an aspiring young singer named Tommy Sour, played by one-time American Idol hopeful, Ace Young. When Tommy’s body is found roadside in a rural area, they probe his legions of fans as well as his enemies in the music industry. They pay particular attention to a woman who had been obsessed with the artist and who, following his death, decides to transfer her affections to Booth. The episode takes an even more dramatic twist when one of the Jeffersonian team members gets caught in the crossfire.
Aside from the American Idol alums, tonight’s Bones features guest performances from Ethan Phillips as Jerry Lincoln, Ian Reed Kesler as Chris Calabasa, Geoff Meed as Dax, Christina Ulloa as Helen, Corbin Allred as Adam Matthews, Jennifer Hasty as Pam Nunan, Kent Faulcon as Dr. Jason Bergman, Joshua Weinstein as Mitchell, Glenn Rosenblum as Piano Man and Jessa French as Emma Von Helberg. AI‘s Brandon Rogers portrays the titular character Broadway Wannabe.
In related news, USA Today reports that Emily Deschanel, who now also serves as producer on the series along with co-star David Boreanaz, gets to display a comical side in tonight’s installment. As part of the storyline centered on the characters essayed by the American Idol guests, Deschanel belts out a Cyndi Lauper standard.
But as playful as the actress actually is in real life, her onscreen partner in crime-fighting probably takes the cake. According to Deschanel, Boreanaz is “like a kid.”
“He’ll take down his pants and moon people,” the actress told USA Today. “He’ll try to kiss me and stuff, and I’ll be like, ‘Uhhhh!’ “
“We drive each other crazy,” she adds. “I’m such a nosy person that I need to get in there when he’s having a conversation with the director but we laugh about it.”
