A new character will be gracing CSI: Miami and she comes in the form of Elizabeth Berkley. Famed for the 1995 film Showgirls, the 35-year-old actress has just signed on to play a recurring role connected to Horatio’s (David Caruso) past.
Read on to find out more about Berkley’s Miami stint.
A CBS spokeswoman has already confirmed the casting news to E! Online that Berkley will be joining the show as Julia Winston, the ex-wife of Horatio Caine and mother of his recently discovered son Kyle (Evan Ellingson). She is expected to make her first appearance in the episode “Raising Caine,” which slated to air next year.
Julia had an affair with Horatio when she was still working as a military nurse, but left Horatio after they’d been together for a few months without telling him that she was pregnant. Kyle, who ended up in foster care, was introduced in the premiere of the sixth season “Dangerous Son,” where Horatio found out that he has a son. In the episode “Chain Reaction,” Kyle was seen trying to get in touch with his mother in Pensacola.
In Berkley’s CSI: Miami debut, she’ll be crossing paths with her former husband as she lands at the center of a Miami-Dade murder investigation after her billionaire husband winds up dead. Her premiere episode will reportedly not be affected by the ongoing writers’ strike. On the other hand, her follow-up appearances are yet to be determined since it can be compromised once the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced procedural runs out of completed scripts.
Berkley, who catapulted to stardom as Jessica “Jessie” Spano on the sitcom Saved by the Bell, has spent the last couple of years working on an assortment of television programs and movies, including roles in The First Wives Club, Any Given Sunday, The Curse of the Jade Scorpion and Rodger Dodger. She has also appeared on Jack & Jill, NYPD Blue, CSI, Without a Trace and, most recently on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
