Sorry, jive fans. It’s “Classical Week” on Dancing with the Stars. And, no matter how sadistic the DWTS producers may be, no one will be forced to jive to a symphony.
But wouldn’t that be entertaining?
However this bizarre experiment known as Classical Week goes, at least the dances are somewhat appropriate to the expected music. Each of the pairs will perform a waltz, a paso doble or a Viennese waltz to the live classical music.
Thanks to the magic of Twitter and the lesser, more familiar magic of blogs, here are the dances for each of the remaining nine couples:
- Hines Ward and Kym Johnson: Paso Doble
- Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff: Waltz
- Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Waltz
- Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke: Paso Doble
- Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas: Viennese Waltz
- Romeo and Chelsie Hightower: Paso Doble
- Petra Nemcova and Dmitry Chaplin: Paso Doble
- Kendra Wilkinson and Louis Van Amstel: Viennese Waltz
- Sugar Ray Leonard and Anna Trebunskaya: Viennese Waltz
Will this be the week when we finally get a real front-runner in Dancing with the Stars‘ 12th season? Going into week 4, there’s no one who can claim that title. Hines Ward is winning in points, with 69 in total for his three dances. Still, the remaining dancers aren’t too far behind him. With the exception of Sugar Ray Leonard (54 points cumulatively), all of the dancers have 60 or more points.
The uncertainty with respect to the dancers might be the drama needed for tonight. Classical Night is a somewhat novel concept for DWTS — and one that may backfire a little. After all, we’re talking about a show so pop-friendly that it had Selena Gomez as a guest last week. Are Dancing with the Stars fans likely to get excited about a little Mozart or Bach thrown in there?
I guess we’ll see tonight!
