So the rumors were true after all: even though his name wasn’t included when the cast was officially revealed two weeks ago, ABC has now announced that The Bachelor‘s Sean Lowe is signing on to Dancing with the Stars season 16, joining the likes of Aly Raisman, Wynonna Judd, Kellie Pickler and Andy Dick. This comes just a day after Sean proposed to Catherine Giudici on The Bachelor season finale.
How to Make Dancing with the Stars Feel New Again >>>
“When they asked me, the first thing I did was call Catherine because I wanted to make sure she was on board and was fully supportive,” Sean says. “I didn’t want her to feel left out. I wanted her to know that she was going to be involved and she’s going to be a big part of this with me.”
His fiance Catherine says, “I used to take a lot of dance classes and I would like to revisit that, even if it’s with him in a living room. Because I want to see what he’s been practicing! It’s exciting.” She also mentions that she’ll be Sean’s “biggest cheerleader.”
Sean’s dance partner will be Peta Murgatroyd, who won season 14 with former NFL wide receiver Donald Driver. It seems that the network chose to keep this cast addition a secret until his Bachelor stint was over. According to Peta, “We’ve been keeping this a secret for a while now.” Sean followed that up with, “I am so tired of keeping secrets. But now they’re all out.”
The Bachelor Finale Recap: Who Won Sean’s Heart >>>
This isn’t the first time someone from The Bachelor or The Bachelorette has competed on DWTS. Trista Sutter joined season 1, but was the first to be eliminated. Jake Pavelka danced his way into seventh place in season 10. And Melissa Rycroft came in third during season 8, and ended up winning last year’s All-Star season.
After his run on DWTS, Sean won’t be leaving our TV screens just yet. He revealed during the After the Final Rose special that his and Catherine’s wedding will be televised on ABC at some point, though a date has yet to be announced.
Are you excited to see Sean Lowe join DWTS? Should someone else from The Bachelor or The Bachelorette have signed on instead?
Dancing with the Stars season 16 premieres Monday, March 18 at 8pm on ABC. The first results show of the season airs Tuesday, March 26 at 9pm.
