In anticipation of NBC’s upfront presentation where the network will announce its 2013-2014 TV lineup, there are plenty of decisions to be made. Not only will the network look through which new shows will get ordered, but it also has a number of shows on the bubble.
The death march begins with the cancellation of freshman drama Deception. First reported by Deadline, the murder mystery starring Meagan Good premiered in January and aired Mondays at 10pm during Revolution‘s hiatus. However, without the benefit of The Voice as a lead-in, it averaged around 3.5 million viewers per episode during its 11-week run.
The show’s cancellation isn’t a big surprise as it ended without much fanfare and never seemed to catch on. NBC already has a number of drama pick-ups for next year, with Revolution, Grimm, Parenthood, Chicago Fire and Law and Order: SVU all returning.
NBC still has a number of show’s on the bubble. The new drama Hannibal is struggling in the ratings and Smash has yet to be officially cancelled, though it seems like a foregone conclusion.
The biggest decisions come with the comedies. Parks and Recreation is probably the only comedy that seems like a likely candidate for renewal. Others on the bubble are Community, Go On, The New Normal, 1600 Penn, Guys with Kids, Whitney and, technically, Up All Night (which, like Smash, is a lock for cancellation).
NBC’s complete line-up for the 2013-2014 TV season, with renewals and new show orders, will be announced Monday.
