What does the future hold for Desperate Housewives? While we already got a little glimpse of what lies ahead five years from now, (which you can read more about in this previous article), the results of the time jump will obviously affect the fate of some of the cast members of the ABC dramedy.
James Denton, who has portrayed love interest Mike Delfino since the premiere of Desperate Housewives, is reported to be among those who might be out in the coming season. On the other hand, the 45-year-old actor won’t receive official word on his fate on the show until mid June.
“[At the table read] all the heads turned to me, like, ‘It’s been nice knowing you,'” Denton told USA Today. “My agents are fielding offers. I f anyone needs my services, they should give us a call.”
While Denton’s fate is still uncertain, viewers should also prepare themselves with the absence of other cast members who won’t be part of the drama of Wisteria Lane next season. These include Joy Lauren (Bree’s daughter Danielle), who is heading off to Columbia University, Andrea Bowen (Susan’s daughter Julie), Lyndsy Fonseca (Katherine’s daughter Dylan), who has landed a new series pilot, and Brent and Shane Kinsman, the child actors who have played Tom (Doug Savant) and Lynette (Felicity Huffman) Scavo’s children since the first season of Desperate Housewives.
“I’m devastated for the kids,” Savant, who hopes that these young actors will return for flashbacks in the future, told USA Today. “This business is hard enough on adults, much less ill-prepared children. It’s heartbreaking.”
Nevertheless, these child actors seem to be taking the news of their departure pretty well. 10-year-old Brent Kinsman, who plays Preston, and his twin brother Shane, who plays Porter, has already landed a gig in the recent season finale of NBC’s ER. And while they are presently enjoying their summer and time off work, they are also setting up meetings at Disney and Nickelodeon in hopes of landing new series.
