It seems that 24 isn’t the only FOX TV series taking a break from production. Dollhouse, Joss Whedon’s latest science fiction drama, has also stopped filming for several weeks to work on scripts.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, shooting for Dollhouse stopped earlier this month after wrapping episode 3. Whedon, who serves as creator and executive producer to the series, was reportedly not satisfied with the quality of upcoming scripts so he requested producing studio 20th TV for a temporary hiatus.
“Joss asked for some extra time, and because the show was several months away from airing, we were able to grant his request without disrupting our ability to deliver the shows well in advance of broadcast,” a rep for FOX said.
The spokesperson went on to say the studio is still very excited for the show, which is currently still slated to air as part of the network’s midseason lineup in January 2009 on Mondays at 8pm as a lead-in to 24.
Dollhouse, for those who are not familiar, stars Eliza Dushku, who worked with Whedon on the cult television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as a young woman who becomes self-aware that she’s a member of a group known as “Actives” or “Dolls,” whose personalities have been wiped clean so they can be imprinted with new personas in order to carry out a particular job, crime, fantasy or a top secret mission. The show also features Amy Acker (Drive, Alias, Angel), Olivia Williams (Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures), Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica, Whistler), Fran Kranz (Welcome to the Captain), Dichen Lachman (Neighbours), Enver Gjokaj (The Express, Spinning into Butter), and Harry Lennix (24, Commander in Chief), just to name a few.
Meanwhile, production of Dollhouse is expected to resume on Thursday, September 25.
