It’s no secret that FOX has been working on a spin-off based on one of the characters of Family Guy. You can read all about it in this previous article. Now, the network has released a teaser for the spin-off that will hopefully get viewers excited and hooked on the animated pilot.
Judging from the preview, the series, which is presently called The Cleveland Show, appears to be at par with the Seth MacFarlane’s standard fare, which includes lots of pop culture references, vulgar jokes and lots of toon nudity. Of course, viewers can only find out how it measures to MacFarlane’s highly rated series Family Guy and his other show American Dad, when the new series premiers this spring.
Given the show’s title, the spin-off obviously revolves around Peter Griffin’s bathtub-accident-prone neighbor, Cleveland Brown. On Family Guy, Cleveland is one of the few African-American characters that recurrently appear on the show. He owns a delicatessen named Cleveland’s Deli and is described to be the most levelheaded among Griffin’s trio of friends. In The Cleveland Show, however, Cleveland will be exploring another chapter in his life as he attempts to fulfill a promise to his high school sweetheart.
During his high school days, Cleveland was madly in love with a girl named Donna. Unfortunately, Donna ended up marrying another man. Despite his unrequited love, he told Donna that he would always love her and that if things didn’t work out between her and her husband, he would always be there for her. So when Donna’s husband left her for another woman, Donna decided to skip town with a daughter and a baby in order to find Cleveland and offer him a shot at love. Cleveland remains true to his word as he eagerly accepts Donna’s offer to move to Stoolbend, VA and join their new family.
This Family Guy spin-off, the first series under MacFarlane’s heavyweight deal, is expected to be part of FOX’s Sunday night block.
