Viewers will have to say farewell to Jason Gerhardt, who is best known for playing Cooper Barrett on General Hospital. Although the news does not come as a shock to the actor, his departure is deemed unexpected to soap fans since he previously stated how happy was to be part of the long-running soap.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.
Gerhardt first appeared on General Hospital on February 1, 2007, initially on a recurring basis throughout the entire Metro Court situation. Eventually, he acquired a contract and became part of the main ensemble. He also joined the show’s spin-off series, General Hospital: Night Shift.
While the news about Gerhardt is already surprising, the manner in which his character will be departing is even more shocking. According to Soap Opera Digest, Cooper will be exiting the show in a very dramatic fashion.
At present, all the evidence begins to point to Cooper as the text message killer. When Georgie’s DNA file with the results from the fingernail scraping is gone missing, Scott (Kin Shriner) suspects that Logan (Josh Duhon) may have taken it, but in the end, Logan discovers that Cooper was the one who took it. Logan confronts Cooper, who admits that he did see Georgie the day she died but asserts his innocence.
Later this week, Cooper decides to leave town and take Maxie (Kirsten Storms) with him for a romantic getaway. But when Maxie arrives to meet him, she finds him hanging from the ceiling, which appears to be an apparent suicide.
Spoilers regarding the tragic death of Cooper are now driving fans to speculate if Cooper did really kill himself or if he fake his death to escape, or if this is just the work of the text message killer.
