The nominations have been announced for the 2014 People’s Choice Awards.
Glee leads the pack with eight nominations, including Favorite Network TV Comedy and nods for Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jane Lynch and Lea Michele. Both The Big Bang Theory and Grey’s Anatomy come in second with five nominations each, and How I Met Your Mother, Supernatural, Castle, The Walking Dead and Vampire Diaries all have four.
Competing for Favorite Network TV Comedy, aside from Glee, is 2 Broke Girls, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Modern Family. And for the same category on the drama side, it’s Chicago Fire, The Good Wife, Grey’s Anatomy, Nashville and Parenthood.
American Idol was shut out of the Favorite Competition TV Show category, though The X Factor somehow made it in, which seems strange. If anything, you’d think Idol would nab a spot over X Factor. The Simon Cowell created show is going up against America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, MasterChef and The Voice.
On the movie side, Sandra Bullock is at the top of the list, where’s she nominated for both comedic and dramatic roles in The Heat and Gravity, respectively. And her co-star Melissa McCarthy has been recognized for her work in both TV and movies, for Mike and Molly and The Heat.
In the running for Favorite Movie is Despicable Me 2, Fast & Furious 6, Iron Man 3, Monsters University and Star Trek Into Darkness — incidentally, none of these are original films; all of them are either sequels or prequels.
For music, Katy Perry leads everyone with five nominations, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Pop Artist, Favorite Song, Favorite Music Video and Favorite Fan Following.
Voting is now open and continues until December 5. You can vote for your favorites on the People’s Choice website, and also on Facebook, Twitter and the app.
The 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards airs Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 9pm on CBS, and will be hosted by 2 Broke Girls stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs.
