One of Glee‘s best guest stars is returning to reprise her role — but will she be showing up in New York this time? Kurt might join a fraternity, and Adam could be following in his footsteps. Also in today’s Roundup, is Glee about to turn into Smash when a Broadway producer makes an appearance? And Naya Rivera gives her thoughts on Brittana, Quinn and if she’s returning for season 5.

Idina Menzel Returning to Glee
Lea Michele started off with a mysterious tweet: “Off to glee tomorrow! Rachel’s gonna get a visit from a familiar face we haven’t seen in a while.. And a big audition to prepare for!” Then she finally spilled on the beans: “I spy @idinamenzel at Glee today! So excited to have my mama back!”
Idina Menzel has played Rachel’s biological mother, Shelby Corcoran, on the show in multiple episodes over the years. Her last appearance was during the first half of season 3, when she hooked up with Puck. (Fortunately, there won’t be a Puckerman in New York.)
It is unknown at this time what her storyline will be. But considering Rachel’s pursuing her dream in New York and she’s also pregnant, I bet she’ll have a lot on her hands when she reunites with her daughter. She’ll appear in episode 18, “Sweet Dreams,” which is expected to air on April 18. And as of right now, it sounds like she’ll only be around for one episode.
Will Kurt Join a Fraternity?
Well, here’s something I wasn’t expecting. TVLine is reporting that Kurt and Adam might be joining a fraternity: “They’re going Greek! Maybe! Rumor has it that one of NYADA’s most popular fraternities will invite Kurt (and maybe Adam) to become members — bypassing the dreaded pledge process and all — after they ‘put out’ (and save the day) at their big spring rager.”
I have a hard time believing Kurt would want to join fraternity. Since he won the diva-off against Rachel, is he one of the cool kids now? And there’s a certain connotation for what “put out” means, but since this is NYADA, hopefully the definition here involves Kurt (and maybe Adam) singing instead. Considering they have to “save the day,” the latter seems more likely.
Does a Broadway Producer Discover Rachel?
There has been a lot of talk going around lately that Rachel’s storyline will focus more on Broadway than anything else as we head towards the finale and into season 5. And that’s looking more and more likely, especially with this spoiler from E! Online: “It seems like Rachel might be too busy becoming a Broadway star to focus on her love life right now! Expect to meet a Broadway producer in Glee‘s 19th episode, once who could be sticking around for some time.”
If this producer does stick around, it clarifies what we can expect from Rachel going forward. Lea Michele has wanted this to happen. And even show creator Ryan Murphy is giving hints that the structure and format of Glee in season 5 will be different — having Rachel going on auditions and being involved in a Broadway production would definitely be a change.
Naya Rivera on Brittana, Quinn and Season 5
In an interview with Vulture, Naya Rivera opens up about Brittana, what she thought of Santana and Quinn hooking up after the wedding-that-wasn’t, if she’s returning for season 5 and even what her debut album will sound like.
“I haven’t spoken to the writers about why [Brittana broke up], but I felt it was just the natural choice,” she said. “Brittany is obviously still in high school and Santana has now moved to New York. And they’ve been exploring the long-distance thing with — I’m gonna say it — Klaine, but not for Brittany and Santana. I like that so far.”
And what about her thoughts on Quinn and Santana hooking up? “That was really weird. I think it was just like, ‘Oh, we’re having a wedding, and everyone’s gonna hook up. And that’s just what’s happening!’ I don’t know. I didn’t really think anything of it. I just thought that it made sense because [Quinn] is like a crazy person anyways. Of course she would just try this because she would try anything.”
But enough about the past, what about the rest of season 4? Besides trying to investigate Brody, what else is Santana doing in New York? Rivera said, “They’re going to start telling her New York story and what she does for a living and what she wants to do for a career. There will be a couple of episodes that will heavily deal with that. … she’s got a regular job that I think she thought would be able to let her perform, but it doesn’t work out that way.”
As for the future, Rivera says she’s not aware of what her storyline will be in season 5. “You never really know what they plan on doing. … I wasn’t really sure what they were going to do with Santana but I think that her storyline is evolving and there is more to tell. So yeah, I’d absolutely be down to be around for some portion of that. But there is the album stuff that I desperately want to get done. It’s just a matter of finding a balance. We won’t get into it until after we wrap at the end of April.” She also said the sound she’s going for on her debut album is “urban, it’s not super pop. It’s soulful, jazzy, urban, like Amy Winehouse’s jazz influences, a hip-hop Adele, a little Beyonce.”
Are you excited for the return of Idina Menzel? How do you feel about Kurt possibly joining a fraternity? And will you buy Naya Rivera’s album when it’s released?
