After six years, Glee is coming to an end. Whether you still love this show or love to hate on it every week, you can’t deny the impact this show has had on pop culture. There’s been plenty of highs and lows, humor, drama, tragedy and lots and lots of music.
The first part of the two-hour series finale will flash back to 2009 to see why the original New Directions members signed up for the glee club. Then the second and final hour will flash forward, and fans will find out what happens to their favorite characters five years in the future.
Glee Recap: It’s the Final Countdown >>>
Music has obviously been a huge element of Glee. Remember the pilot when Rachel performed “On My Own,” Finn sang “Can’t Fight This Feeling” in the shower and the episode ended with the most iconic cover in the history of Glee, “Don’t Stop Believin'”? These were some of the very first songs we ever heard on the FOX musical.
Now it’s time for the final batch of performances. The first hour of the finale, “2009,” will feature these songs: “Popular” from Wicked, Zella Jackson Price’s “I’m His Child,” Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” and Ginuwine’s “Pony.”
Glee has a history with Wicked. Not only did the original stars of the Broadway musical, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, guest star, but Rachel and Kurt have covered “Defying Gravity” and “For Good” before.
You’ll also notice that “I Kissed a Girl” is being covered. Tina auditioned with that song in the pilot, but we didn’t hear the entire song. With this flashback episode, it looks like we’ll be getting the full version. (This song was also an all-girl group number back in season 3.)
And here is the song list for the final episode, “Dreams Come True”: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Teach Your Children,” Diana Ross & the Supremes’ “Someday We’ll Be Together,” The Monkees’ “Daydream Believer,” ABBA’s “The Winner Takes It All,” an original song called “This Time” written by Glee star Darren Criss, and OneRepublic’s “I Lived.”
“Daydream Believer” is another reprise of sorts. Neil Patrick Harris sang this song in season 1, though it wasn’t released as a single.
