Katherine Heigl, one of the female stars of the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, is saddened by her exposed salary dispute with the bosses. “I am embarrassed that this has become a public matter and disappointed that Touchstone felt it necessary to divulge private employment information,” Heigl said. “I had hoped I would be able to deal with this issue confidentially with my bosses. I dropped out of the renegotiation simply because I wanted to treat myself with the respect I was not getting from them.”
Recently, Heigl aspired to elevate her status on the show, ultimately seeking for a higher salary that would put her on the same level with the series’ other female stars such as Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo. Heigl’s move, although the salary dispute is still at a deadlock, has prompted negative rumors about the actress and the conflicts it brought to the cast.
Heigl, a 28-year old Golden Globe-nominated actress, started her career as a model. She got her first break as an actress in the film That Night. Her other acting credits included King of the Hill, Roswell, My Father the Hero, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory and Bride of Chucky. Moreover, she frequently appeared on popular calendars and magazines like Maxim and FHM.
Heigl’s portrayal of Isobel “Izzie” Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy clearly gave the plot much life and depth. Her notable performance, not only recognized by award giving bodies, is also acknowledged by her costars in the series. Kate Walsh, who plays Dr. Addison Montgomery, told People, “She’s a super-talented girl… Everyone’s just working hard.” In addition, Sara Ramirez, who plays Dr. Callie O’Malley, came to Heigl’s defense by stating, “She’s lovely,” “Everybody’s very professional–not just Katherine–but everybody else too.”
Despite Heigl’s sentiments about her contract negotiations going public, she remains to be seen on the popular drama Grey’s Anatomy for at least three more seasons. Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays 9/8 C.
