FX has officially renewed Sons of Anarchy for yet another season after riding high into the finale with 4.33 million viewers total and 2.99 million adults ages 18-to-49— the series’ best ratings so far. Season 3 will consist of 13 installments and is scheduled to return in September 2010.

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to fans of the motorcycle drama. TV numbers aside, Sons of Anarchy has delivered a remarkable sophomore season, kicking off with the arrival of the League, followed by Gemma’s rape, the Jax and Clay feud, and the unexpected death of Half Sack, just to name a few. And not that it matters but Ally Walker, who brilliantly plays the unyielding Agent Stahl, also happens to be FX president John Landgraf’s wife.
“The success of Sons of Anarchy is very gratifying and the show has become a bona-fide hit,” said Landgraf. “The critics have recognized Sons as one the best series on television, and the show has earned its place alongside FX’s great drama series The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me and Damages. Creatively, this season was spectacular and all credit goes to Kurt and the incredible cast led by Katey Sagal, Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman.”
“This has been a wonderful ride and we’re just getting started,” series creator Kurt Sutter said. “I’m really proud of the work by our incredible cast and crew. The response this season from the fans and critics has been terrific and I can’t wait to get back to the writer’s room and start on season three.”
