A lot of House are understandably up in arms because of the heavily anticipated Huddy sex – and how it was done – on the finale of the medical drama’s fifth season. For those who haven’t seen the finale, the romp, which was almost five seasons in the making, happened but not in the way most Huddy enthusiasts expected. House (Hugh Laurie) and Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) didn’t have sex; it was just a pigment of House’s Vicodin-laden brain. In fact, the tandem did not just not advance, it even took a step back, as Cuddy took House to Wilson (Sean Leonard), who took him to the Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital.
Entertainment Weekly reports that, technically, while we may all feel duped by the matter of the Huddy sex as being illusory, series creator David Shore did warn that it will not be “what people expect” because they “have to do things our way, the House way,” and that they didn’t want the characters to do anything out of character.
Could this mean having sex with House and pursuing a romantic relationship with the now potentially loony doctor is “out of character” for Huddy? Shore previously said no, and that they are “taking things forward with them.”
Edelstein, for her part, likewise said that it’s not a “passing thing” precisely because it’s been going on for a long time.
“Whether or not they’ve acted on it. I don’t necessarily think it will ever be a satisfying relationship in terms of both of them settling in and saying, this is what we’re doing. She has a complicated relationship with men, it seems. She likes the screwed up ones. I totally relate.”
