Ah, the plot thickens. As we reported yesterday, Ryan Jenkins, a contestant on VH1’s Megan Wants A Millionaire, is a suspect in the murder of his wife, Jasmine Fiore. But it would seem that Ryan’s ties to VH1 go beyond being a finalist in the now indefinitely postponed Megan Wants A Millionaire, he is also supposedly the winner of the just finished filming I Love Money 3... a show that will certainly now never see the light of day. If the accusations against Jenkins are as true as they seem, and VH1 is acting, anyway.
According to TMZ, Ryan finished filming I Love Money 3 about a month ago in Mexico, and he walked away with the $250,000 prize. Producers of the show are not returning calls for confirmation, which is no surprise, seeing that VH1 has completely scrubbed their site of any evidence that connects them to Jenkins. Not only has the network canceled any future airings of Megan Wants a Millionaire, they’ve also removed all photos and links on their website to the show and made all previously aired videos unavailable on iTunes. It seems that VH1 would want nothing to do with the gigantic mess and PR nightmare that Ryan Jenkins is about to become and is trying their best to distance themselves from the situation but, but it’s too late, especially with the word out about I Love Money 3.
Ryan is now a suspect in the murder of his new wife and at the moment is nowhere to be found. Yesterday authorities in Washington State found Ryan’s abandoned black SUV and an empty boat trailer at a marina in the border town of Blaine. Authorities believe from there he may have walked into Canada, though the empty boat trailer would indicate that perhaps he boated into Canada. Jenkins is a Canadian citizen and authorities worry he won’t be extradited if he is charged in a capital offense. There’s also concern he will try to escape to Honduras via his Daddy’s private jet. Being a millionaire has its perks…especially when trying to evade authorities.
Jenkins’ participation (and success) in not one, but two VH1 reality shows elevates the long-running questions about VH1’s casting practices for their reality shows. (VH1’s casting and production is handled by an outside company, 51 Minds.) They’ve always seemed trashy, but now they seem downright dangerous. When the best thing that could happen to you on a VH1 reality show is making out with the likes of Bret Michaels, fighting for Flava-Flav, or attempting to purchase Megan Hausserman’s affection — one has to wonder just what kind of person signs up for a show. Or if the company VH1 uses and trusts does any kind of thorough background check. Word on the web now is that Jenkins had a history of domestic violence. No word yet on how the story of Ryan Jenkins will affect future VH1 reality shows or casting, but hopefully the channel will ease up on the search for America’s Scummiest Reality Contestant with every casting. Seems like they’ve found a real winner with Ryan Jenkins.
