Following its most-watched episode that aired nearly two years ago on November 29, 2005, NCIS drew its second-biggest audience ever. The police procedural drama changed history when it attracted 18.2 million viewers on last Tuesday’s episode entitled “Requiem.”
NCIS, which is currently in its fifth season, follows a team of special agents that investigates crimes involving persons and properties associated with the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. Leading the series is Mark Harmon who plays Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a Supervisory Special Agent of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service Major Case Response Team. The main ensemble also includes David McCallum as Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, Michael Weatherly as Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo, Pauley Perrette as Abigail “Abby” Sciuto, and Lauren Holly as Jenny Shepard, just to name a few.
In “Requiem,” which was directed by Tony Wharmby, viewers saw an emotionally challenged Gibbs as he agreed to investigate a crime connected to a friend of his daughter, who was killed years ago. Aside from the cast, the episode also featured Cameron Goodman (Succubus: Hell Bent, Cold Case) as Maddie Tyler, Mark Totty (Fashion House, Joan of Arcadia) as Retired Army Major Max Bourdais, and Nick Spano (Even Stevens, Strong Medicine) as Marine Sgt. Rudi Haas.
According to Nielsen, NCIS won the 8 pm slot and topped the numbers in households (11.5/18), adults 25-54 (5.5/14), and adults 18-49 (4.1/11). Compared to the previous week, NCIS was up 11 percent in households (from 10.4/17), increased 12 percent in adults 25-54 (from 4.9/13), increased 24 percent in adults 18-49 (from 3.3/09), and added 12 percent or 1.95 million viewers from 16.33 million.
Meanwhile, fans can catch Gibbs and the rest of the team as they unearth the assassination of a Navy Admiral in a new episode called “Designated Target,” which airs tonight at 8 pm ET/PT on CBS.
