A First Lady is stopping by for a visit on Parks and Recreation. And Law and Order: SVU is getting ready for a big episode featuring both Alec Baldwin and Katie Couric. Read on to find out all the details, including casting news for The Good Wife (which politician is making a guest appearance?), Girl Meets World, Under the Dome, Mike and Molly and The Crazy Ones.
Michelle Obama to cameo on Parks and Rec: The Amy Poehler-starring comedy is going out with a bang for its one-hour season 6 finale (titled “Moving Up”), which airs April 24. NBC has announced that the First Lady of the United States of America filmed a scene recently when she was in Miami for her “Let’s Move” campaign to help curb childhood obesity, and promote exercise and healthier eating. We don’t know how big this scene is, but it’s not the first time Parks and Rec has welcomed big names from the realm of politics. In the past, Vice President Joe Biden, Senators John McCain and Barbara Boxer and former Senator Olympia Snowe have all made appearances. Can Bo and Sunny guest star as well?
Katie Couric to grill Alec Baldwin on Law and Order: SVU: The 30 Rock alum is becoming known for his off-screen controversies, and that’ll be put to good use now that he’s been cast as a NYC newspaper columnist (described as “controversial” by TV Guide) named Jimmy MacArthur. When SVU works on a case about a possible hate crime, MacArthur questions their motives. And Couric’s character won’t be a stretch either: she’ll be a talk show host who interviews the columnist about the investigation. The episode, directed by star Mariska Hargitay, will air March 19.
NYC Mayor to guest star on The Good Wife: Parks and Rec‘s not the only show bringing on a political star. Bill de Blasio, who was recently sworn in as mayor of the Big Apple, is going to play himself in an episode airing on March 16. Alicia Florrick will head out to New York City to “seek inspiration for a keynote speech,” according to the New York Post. De Blasio’s predecessor, Mike Bloomberg, has also appeared on the show before.
Also appearing in the same episode of The Good Wife is Law and Order alum Jill Hennessy as a lawyer named Rayna Hecht. Alicia and Cary might be trying to win her over to be a partner, reports TV Guide.
Jane Lynch appearing on Girl Meets World: Fans of the ’90s sitcom Boy Meets World have been excited ever since a spin-off was announced. We already know who the core cast are, which includes the return of Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel. And now a certain Glee star has revealed she’ll be making a guest appearance. When asked on Twitter, “Is there any truth to the rumors that you have a guest role on Girl Meets World?” Lynch simply replied, “Yes there is truth.” No word yet on who she’ll be playing, or when the spin-off is premiering, though it’s expected to be in the fall.
Sherry Stringfield is a mystery Under the Dome: The former ER actress has been cast in a recurring role for season 2, airing this summer. Her character’s name is Pauline and she just might have a connection to how the dome even came about in the first place. She’s also a certain someone’s mom, but I’ll refrain from spoiling that (you can click here to read all about it). Executive producer Neal Baer said, “I’m thrilled after all these years to be working again with Sherry Stringfield. We had a blast on ER together and I know Sherry will bring the same grace, spirit and intensity to her new, pivotal role on Under the Dome.”
Susan Sarandon returning to Mike and Molly: The award-winning actress is reprising her role has J.C. Small, Molly’s favorite author, according to TV Guide. But things won’t be all that rosy because Molly has to bail her out when Mike arrests her. Uh oh. I wonder how that will go down? Expect her episode to air this spring.
Marilu Henner is Sydney’s mother on The Crazy Ones: TV Guide also has the scoop that the Taxi alum will stop by in April as Paige. Apparently, she’ll be a deciding vote for something at the ad agency with Simon and Gordon. She’s described as “self-absorbed” and makes Simon look pretty good as a result.
