The nominations have been announced for the 2013 CMA Awards, celebrating the best in country music over the past year. Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves (as both a performer and songwriter) lead the pack with six nominations each.
The “It” couple in country right now, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, follow closely behind with five each. (This includes the two for Lambert with her group Pistol Annies.) And Florida Georgia Line and Keith Urban have four nominations.
Swift is up for Single, Musical Event and Music Video of the Year — all for her contribution to the Tim McGraw song “Highway Don’t Care” that also features Urban — along with Album of the Year for Red and the biggest award of them all, Entertainer of the Year.
Both American Idol and The Voice are represented big time: Idol judge Urban, besides the awards mentioned above for Swift on “Highway Don’t Care,” he’s also nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year. Kelly Clarkson received a nod for Female Vocalist of the Year, along with Musical Event for “Don’t Rush” featuring Vince Gill. And Carrie Underwood is up for Album of the Year and Music Video of the Year for Blown Away and the song of the same name, as well as Female Vocalist of the Year.
For The Voice, as mentioned above, Shelton’s nominations include Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year — he won the top prize at last year’s ceremony. So far, the tradition continues that only coaches from The Voice are nominated at music award shows and not the contestants — will Cassadee Pope or Danielle Bradbery be recognized next year?
The CMA Awards are being hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley for the sixth time, and will air on Wednesday, November 6 at 8pm on ABC.
