Now that Cory and Topanga’s daughter has been cast in Girl Meets World, the Boy Meets World spin-off, casting announcements should be coming left and right with the pilot for the Disney Channel being shot this month.
Boy Meets World Spin-Off Casts Rowan Blanchard as Cory & Topanga’s Daughter >>>
On Boy Meets World, Cory found a best friend in Shawn Hunter. And now daughter Riley Matthews has her own Shawn, BFF Maya Fox, who will be played by 13-year-old Sabrina Carpenter, according to TV Line. She tweeted out a simple message once the news broke: “Its official!!! Beyond excited.” And Danielle Fishel gave her a nod as well: “Congratulations girl! So happy to have you on board with @rowblanchard!”
Like Rowan Blanchard (Riley), Carpenter is also a singer, and just so happens to have a record deal with Hollywood Records. Her debut single, “Smile,” was featured on Disney Fairies: Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust. Her prior acting gigs include Austin & Ally, Law & Order: SVU and Sophia the First, all guest starring roles. She’s also been cast as a young Becki Newton in The Goodwin Games.
Producers are currently casting for three other roles, including Riley’s 13-year-old brother. Okay, so Cory and Topanga have two children now. Take a look at the character descriptions from the casting calls, as reported by EW, along with our suggestions for who should be hired for these roles.
Elliott Matthews (Age: 13)
“Good looking, well built, funny and insightful in his observations. Good hearted except for his dedication toward using Riley as his wrestling practice dummy. His parents worry that he has inherited the ‘Eric Matthews Algernon’ gene and will lose intelligence as time goes by.”
Our casting suggestion is Bradley Steven Perry. He looks like he would fit right in with the Matthews family. Most recently, he could be seen on Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie as Gabe Duncan:
Tristan Friar (Age: 12-13)
Tristan comes from Texas and is considered a “cowboy in the city. He seems actually possessed of ethics, common sense and a value system making him immediately alien to everybody else except Riley, who believes it’s the value system that attracts her to want to be his friend even though he’s too good looking for her to look at.”
For the kid with ethics and a value system, we’d go with Cameron Boyce. You may have seen him on Jessie, Austin & Ally, Shake It Up! and Good Luck Charlie. In this behind the scenes video on the set of Jessie, Boyce is interviewed at the 40-second mark, followed by a brief scene with him. From the way he dresses to how normal he seems, I bet he could play the child that every parent would want to have.
Shamus Farkle (Age: 12-13)
“Future world ruler. Riley’s rebellious best friend Maya is his nemesis, Riley gets between them to save his life. Farkle is wildly attached and protective of both girls and loves equally that Riley doesn’t make him miserable and Maya does.”
Shamus is the resident genius on the show. (Doesn’t every show seem to have one? Boy Meets World did.) For this role, my pick is Cameron Boyce’s co-star on Jessie, Karan Brar, who’s most famous from Diary of a Wimpy Kid. (Did you know that that accent is not real?) His character wasn’t the most popular in those films, so I don’t think it’d be too hard for him to play Shamus.
Do you think Sabrina Carpenter will be a great fit as Riley’s BFF? And for the other three roles, do you agree with any of these suggestions? What other young actors would be perfect for these roles?
