Rock of Love might not have found Bret Michaels lasting success at love, but it sounds like Jes Rickleff’s rejection of him on the reunion show wasn’t exactly a huge let down for the Poison lead singer.
For one thing, he has admitted he probably wasn’t really ready for a relationship, and he recently reiterated that sentiment at a Chicago show.
“I had just come out of a long relationship with two kids,” he said. “I was more ready for ‘Rock of Like’ or ‘Rock of Dating.’ Jes and me had a real dose of reality when the show ended. There were five months in between and we talked on the phone a few times. I invited her to my shows in Chicago and St. Louis, but she didn’t come. The reality of reality dating is kind of strange.”
For another, the failure of the relationship led to his being invited back for a second season of Rock of Love. And all the exposure from the popular show has given him a brand new, younger audience.
Many of them were in attendance at that small, one-hour acoustic show in Chicago this past week. The set he played included his classic Poison hits like “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Something to Believe In” and “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” and the younger crowd seemed to know all the words to songs almost as old as they are.
Carmoni from Rock of Love and Megan Klehr from Age of Love both made an appearance at the Chicago show, along with a woman named Asia Urban. She said she was cast on the show, but didn’t actually make to taping. “Bret’s so hot I regret not going on the show.” Maybe she should make another attempt at round two?
If so, Bret has a warning for her: “But after [the Season 2 Rock of Love winner and I] fall in love, we can’t date for six months.”
