Get ready to see more of Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills as they battle mythological creatures in the not-so-sleepy town of Sleepy Hollow because FOX has renewed the drama for a third season.
Season 3, airing in the 2015-2016 season, will consist of 18 episodes, the same amount that season 2 had. By contrast, season 1 aired only 13 episodes.

“Sleepy Hollow is truly inventive television,” David Madden, President of Entertainment at FOX, said in a statement. “The talented producers — led by Alex, Bob, Len and Heather — along with the brilliant cast, anchored by Nicole and Tom, have created a fantastic world that brings ‘history’ to life with compelling and vibrant storytelling.”
With this announcement also comes news that Clifton Campbell is joining the series as the new showrunner and an executive producer. Campbell is known for creating the A&E series The Glades; he was also an executive producer on such shows as White Collar, Profiler, SeaQuest 2032 and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures.
Speaking about the new showrunner, Madden said, “I had the pleasure of working with Clifton on both The Glades and White Collar. He is an excellent producer, and we can’t wait to see what this team has in store for season 3.”
The future of Sleepy Hollow was up in the air in recent days and weeks, especially after previous showrunner Mark Groffman departed in early March.
Sleepy Hollow became a breakout hit when it debuted, averaging almost 8 million viewers. But its sophomore season had a noticeable slump in both the ratings (a decrease of 40% from season 1) and in the storytelling — something fans and critics have complained about.
FOX has revealed that following the events of the season 2 finale, in which Katrina was finally defeated, season 3 will focus on Ichabod and Abbie’s partnership and viewers will watch it evolve as new challenges arise.
