Michael Rosenbaum has said that he’d be leaving Smallville after the seventh season. Some fans were concerned about the show going on without him, while others point out that many sources say the seventh will be the last for Smallville anyway. But will it?
While everyone seems sure that next season will almost certainly be the last for Smallville, rumours abound that producers of the show have signed some of the actors, like Tom Welling, for an eighth season.
Michael Rosenbaum told E!Online’s Kristin Veitch that “I think other people have longer contracts. I’m not going to say who.” Tom Welling, Allison Mack, and Kristin Kreuk all originally signed contracts for at least seven seasons of Smallville, and yet one of their characters is slated to die (I agree with Jon – it’ll probably be Chloe) in what Veitch calls “a shocking plot twist.” So does the length of their contract even mean anything?
Kristin Veitch teases that “another character (a second one) is leaving the show by season’s end.”
However, she’s also said that “Chloe’s power will be revealed during the season finale, and Lois Lane plays a large role in the big reveal. Sources tell me it is a lot like the scene between Peter Petrelli and Claire on [April 23]’s Heroes.” If you saw that episode of Heroes, you know that Peter “died” but was about to come back to life after Claire removed the piece of glass that killed him, because he gained Claire’s power of regeneration.
So is Chloe’s power something like Claire’s? According to Alfred Gough, Smallville’s creator and executive producer, “Lois is the key to Chloe’s power manifesting.” Will one of these deaths be “temporary” like Peter Petrelli’s?
Only two episodes left in the sixth season. Here are the official summaries from The CW, to remind you what’s to come:
May 10 – Episode 6.21: Prototype
“Lex has been secretly trying to turn Wes Keenan (guest star Tahmoh Penikett), a military man who supposedly died fighting in Afghanistan, into a “super soldier” by injecting him with DNA pulled from the various meteor freaks he has captured. After a crooked senator (guest star Alan C. Peterson) threatens to expose his secret labs, Lex dispatches Wes to kill the senator, but Lois witnesses the attack and inadvertently becomes the super soldier’s next target. Meanwhile, Clark tries to convince Lana to leave Lex. Allison Mack and Annette O’Toole also star.”
May 17 – Episode 6.22: Phantom
“When Clark discovers Lionel threatened to kill him unless Lana married Lex, he goes after Lionel to silence him once and for all. Lana tells Lex she is leaving him, and Martian Manhunter (guest star Phil Morris) makes a return appearance to help Clark stop Lex, who is trying to find the last wraith from the Phantom Zone in order to use its DNA to power his army of super soldiers. Meanwhile, Lois goes to Reeves Dam in search of information about Lex’s secret lab and is brutally stabbed by a security guard. Chloe’s secret power is revealed. Annette O’Toole also stars.”
