At the hospital, Chloe tries to cozy up to Bette, who is homeless. Davis arrives and thinks putting a 15-year-old girl in a homeless shelter is a bad idea because they’re dangerous. Davis offers up a friend’s shelter, and when Bette rejects it, Chloe convinces Bette to come home with her.
Lois and Clark debate the merits of Tess, and Lois calls her “a pitbull in Prada.” It’s as if they’re actively trying to create a Sarah Palin comparison, given the famous lipstick joke the vice presidential candidate told at the Republican National Convention. Lois tries to sneak into the bomb scene, but when she can’t get in, Clark uses his supersonic hearing to find out there’s no bomb remnants on the bus.
Clark takes off to interrogate Bette about what happened over at Chloe’s apartment. With no bomb, Clark suspects a meteor freak of being to blame, and Bette tells them about a fellow street kid named Tommy who might have such powers.
At the skate park, Clark chases after Tommy, who he recognizes as a guy who ran away from the bus. Tommy freaks out, and when he tries to run, Bette’s eyes get fiery and she sets off an explosion, killing Tommy.
It’s time for another lesson in reporting as Lois records Clark telling her about what happened, using him as a source. While Lois takes the big story, she got Clark the boy’s obituary, saying that’s an amazing opportunity for a newbie reporter.
Davis stops by Chloe’s place and they share a romantic moment. They discuss the Isis Foundation and the topic turns to meteor freaks. Davis suggests she apply to be an EMT to better help people with powers. She Googled him and found out he’s a former runaway, but before he can read too much into her cyber-stalking, she tells him about her engagement, which he’s OK with. Still, Chloe seems to be having second thoughts because Davis is a man while Jimmy is still kind of a boy.
