Who could forget Gev’s audition this year for So You Think You Can Dance? As if his breakdancing skills weren’t impressive enough, he showed off on a pair of ice skates! From that day on, Gev became a sentimental favorite, catapulting him this year’s Top 10. He was paired with contemporary dancer Courtney Galiano for much of the competition. The two worked beautifully together and had great chemistry. Nigel even teased Gev, saying that when he got a new partner, he wasn’t as focused because he was still thinking of Courtney. After being eliminated last night, Gev talked to BuddyTV today in an exclusive interview and addressed those romance rumors!

Hey everybody, this is Gina from BuddyTV and today I’m talking to Gev from So You Think You Can Dance. Is this your first year trying out for So You Think You Can Dance?
This is actually my second year. I tried out two years ago, but I got cut right before Vegas.
So what was this experience like coming back for a second time, and what did you do to prepare for coming back?
Honestly, when I was auditioning this year I never really expected much. All I was doing was breakdancing a lot. I kind of was taking classes but not so much, and so I really didn’t know what was going to happen. So when I auditioned this year I felt a lot more prepared with my own style but not with anything else I guess. So when I made it to Vegas, I was like, “Oh my god, I really need to take a whole lot of classes.” When I made it to top 20 it was kind of the same thing. I was freaking out and I could really go even, so.
How difficult is it for a breaker to get into this competition as opposed to a contemporary dancer with more training?
Very difficult, I would say. When I first started, when we started the top 20, the first few weeks I felt really intimidated by all these other guys because everybody is just so great at what they do. And a lot of them know, they have training and stuff, and so for me it was like, “Aw, I’m kind of the weak link here.” But it made me work so much harder.
What was the most difficult style of dance for you to master in the competition?
Oh, that’s a good question. I think jive was one of my hardest ones.
How was it to work with Courtney as a partner?
Oh, awesome. It was great, I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. She was so much fun and we just kind of , like . . . Well there’s a guessing game we play, like who is going to be your partner the very first week when we’re in top 20. Me and Courtney guessed each other, and we were so happy and excited, and from there it just kind of flowed. It was really fun.
What was your reaction to Nigel’s comment this week that you still had Courtney on your mind? What was he just teasing you?
Yeah, he teases me a lot though, so I’m kind of used to that. It’s fine, I don’t mind it.
So after you work with someone for so long, for so many weeks together, was it difficult when you were split up and you had to work with someone else?
It was very hard. I remember the first day we weren’t together and we met up at the studio, and we just looked at each other and were like, “I miss you,” and we hugged each other. It was hard.
Do you see any dancer or any couple that looks like they’re the frontrunner right now this season?
Not really. Every week it kind of changes, and everybody is just so incredible. It’s really hard to say, even now.
What are you most looking forward to with going on tour?
Everything. Just being on stage and performing for people that come to watch you. I feel like this tour is very different from other tours, it’s showcasing you and people come to see you rather than somebody else, and so that’s very exciting to me. And plus I get to see Courtney everyday.
You sound like you two are having a showmance.
Oh yeah.
Well I’ll be at the tour and I can’t wait to see you there, and I just wanted to thank you so much, Gev.
