There are plenty of great episodes ahead for Supernatural, with magicians, high schools and Dean driving a Prius (more on that last one can be heard in our upcoming exclusive interview with writer Sera Gamble). Kristin at E!Online recently got word on another episode that features Dean and Sam posing as ghosts to uncover the sudden death of reapers.
The big news Kristin has today is that in this episode, “a character we know and love dies.” While she doesn’t reveal who ths mystery death is, it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out because, as any Supernatural fan knows, there aren’t a whole lot of characters we “know and love.” It definitely takes Ruby out of the running.
My first hunch is that Kristin is using a bit of trickery. Since the boys pose as ghosts, maybe they have a spell that lets them die so they can become ghosts, but then be brought back to life after it’s over. Except for this possibility, I think we can all safely assume Dean or Sam won’t be the one to die.
If it’s a real death, the odds have to be against Uncle Bobby. It’s hard to find a more beloved character who could actually be killed off without dramatically harming the show. Part of me would love to see Bobby die only because, from a storytelling perspective, it would be very emotional and propel Dean and Sam into some newer, darker places. On the other hand, it might be too hard to let go of such a great character who can pop in all the time.
Supernatural has such a small ensemble that thinking of another “character we know and love” is no easy task. Other than Bobby or one of the Winchesters, I’m not sure I’d be that sad to see any other character die.
Unless, of course, Kristin is using the term “character” loosely. In the eyes of many Supernatural fans, there is another major character that is just as essential to the shows success as Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. Naturally, I’m referring to the Impala.
Dean’s car is usually the third star of the show, and the Impala has been around for a long time and it’s seen a lot of action, so having it fall apart wouldn’t be such a stretch. The bigger problem would be how could Dean fix it up, because if Supernatural actually killed the Impala, I suspect fans would react as if they gave Jared a buzz cut.
Which character do you think Kristin is talking about? Supernatural returns with new episodes on January 15.
