Supernatural season 8 continues on Wednesday, January 30 with an episode called “As Time Goes By.” BuddyTV was there for a special screening as a few members of the press were invited to watch the episode a day early and then chat with executive producer, Robert Singer. Information disclosed in the interview will be posted shortly, so stay tuned.

As a huge fan of Supernatural for many years, I am pretty confident in saying that this episode will not only turn the entire series on its head, but could end up being a favorite episode for many fans.

Here are few reasons why I think fans are going to love “As Time Goes By”:

It introduces an entirely new myth arc

From the previews and photos, everyone by now knows that Sam and Dean are going to meet their grandfather, Henry Winchester. We also know that he time- traveled to get to them, but what we don’t know is exactly why and what brought him. It’s the answers to those questions that will send the series off into an entirely new direction, with a new myth arc that is going to continue to play out for a while.

Henry Winchester is awesome

Now I know that not every fan enjoyed Sam and Dean’s other grandfather. Let’s face it, the man had more than his fair share of faults and I think there was a good portion of the fandom that was happy when he died, ear worm or not. But this grandpa is different. Henry Winchester is intelligent and funny and has a few tricks up his sleeve. Hell, he even manages to get the upper hand on his grandsons at one point, which proves just how awesome he is.

It introduces a whole new type of demon

Again, from the previews and photos, everyone knows that Henry was running from a demon named Abbadon. But again, there is a lot more to the story than that. If you think that Abbadon is just your run-of-the-mill demon, think again. She’s of a type that we’ve never seen before and she will pose a whole new level of threat to the Winchesters.

Sam and Dean work well together in the episode

This season has been a little rough on the brotherly bond between Sam and Dean. Recently they both gave up important people in their lives to work together, but it was unclear if that was going to work out for them. Well, fans will be happy to know that, in this episode at least, all of those previous battles are behind them and Sam and Dean are, for the most part, a united front. I mean there’s the normal Sam and Dean grumbling, but it’s based mostly on their different personalities and not so much the big issues they’ve been facing this season.

The ending is very emotional

Supernatural fans love their emotional scenes and this one promises a doozy near the end. Something very significant is going to happen that will affect the boys and it’s going to stir up a lot of emotions in them and within the fandom as well, I’m sure.

So now that you’ve heard more about this episode of Supernatural, what do you think? Are you more excited than ever to find out about Henry Winchester? Got any theories about what the new myth arc will be about?

Supernatural airs on Wednesday nights at 9pm on the CW.
