“My father would kill me!” gushed Melissa Rycroft, in reference to rumors that she was doing Playboy, which she described as the craziest rumor she has ever heard about herself. The jilted Bachelor reject turned Dancing with the Stars second runner-up said posing for the men’s magazine would mean her father won’t look at her the same way again.
Some months after the crazy Bachelor special that featured her ex-fiancé and star Jason Mesnick blowing her off in national television for runner-up Molly Malaney, Rycroft tells Us Magazine that she had no idea she would be able to bounce back this fast and this way.
“Eleven weeks ago, I was sitting in my cubicle doing Power Point presentations,” she says. “I don’t think that anybody could have scripted that I was going to be here.”
Does she ever think of Mesnick? No, she said, adding that she’s happy with her “life” and “situation.” The former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader is currently dating Tye Strickland.
Rycroft, 26, was cast as a last-minute replacement for Access Hollywood‘s Nancy O’Dell after the host withdrew from Dancing with the Stars due to an injury during pre-season rehearsals. Despite having only two days to practice – the shortest in the show’s eight seasons – she and professional partner Tony Dovolani tied for second place for that week’s show.
Down the line, she herself suffered a hairline fracture in her ribs before the live show of week 8 and, therefore, wasn’t able to perform in front of the judges.
Regarding the third place finish, Rycroft previously said that while she wanted to finish on top, she’s just as thankful for placing in the top three.
“I wanted that mirrorball trophy, I really did. But I don’t need it because I know I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought I could.”
