After playing Horatio Caine’s (David Caruso) ex-lover, Julia Winston, on CBS’ hit procedural drama CSI: Miami, Elizabeth Berkley makes her way into yet another TV series. This time, she’ll be joining the cast of Showtime’s The L Word for a multi-episode arc.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Berkley will be appearing on The L Word as a straight girl that got away from Jennifer Beals’ character Bette Porter in college.
This isn’t the first time Berkley has worked with Beals. Apart from being real-life pals, they co-starred together in Roger Dodger, the 2002 comedy noir that explored the relationship between men, women and sex.
As reported previously, Showtime is working on a potential spin-off for the lesbian-themed drama The L Word. Because of this casting news, some speculate that the new series will perhaps be spearheaded by Beals and Berkley. In the meantime, fans catch The L Word when it returns for its sixth and final season in January.
Berkley is perhaps best known for her role on the television series Saved by the Bell where she played a smart high school girl and committed feminist named Jessie from 1989 to 1996, as well as in both of the show’s TV movie installments. Following her Saved by the Bell stint, she then tried to break into cinema by audition for the role of Nomi Malone, the lead character in the 1995 Paul Verhoeven film Showgirls, where she beat out various other young actresses including Jenny McCarthy, Denise Richards and Charlize Theron.
Since the failure of Showgirls, Berkley audition for smaller roles in quality films and ended up being cast in The First Wives Club, a comedy starring Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler. Her other credits included The Taxman, Tail Lights Fade and Woody Allen’s The Curse of the Jade Scorpion.
