The CW may be continuing to explore the world of vampires and werewolves even after The Originals comes to an end. The network revealed new details, including several cast members, for a potential spin-off for both The Originals and The Vampire Diaries that may come in the 2018-2019 TV season.
The CW Sets Premiere Date for The Originals Final Season>>>
The new series would star Matt Davis as Alaric and Danielle Rose Russell as the teenage version of Hope, Klaus’ daughter. Russell will first appear in the role during the upcoming fifth and final season of The Originals. The show will also introduce another new character, a love interest for Hope played by Aria Shanghasemi, who would also be a part of the spin-off. Also cast are Quincy Fouse, Kaylee Bryant and Jenny Boyd, who would all play new characters.
Given the involvement of Alaric, it is likely that the spin-off would be set back in Mystic Falls at the school for gifted supernatural teens that he and Caroline opened in the series finale of The Vampire Diaries.
While some of the characters will be introduced in the final season of The Originals, they won’t be making a traditional, full pilot episode for the new series. Instead, the CW will have to base the decision on the scenes from The Originals that set up the new series.
The CW Casts TVD and Originals Stars in Roswell Reboot>>>
The CW is clearly investing heavily in established properties during this pilot season. The network also has the Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters, plus reboots of Charmed and Roswell, all in contention for the 2018-2019 TV season. The CW’s decision to expand its schedule to Sundays in the Fall may mean that more of these pilots could get picked up to series.
