Lisa Vanderpump has been called a lot of names on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills but it seems that being characterized as “manipulative” is something that has stuck though every season. The 56-year-old reality star is well aware of her reputation and even admits to being crafty on occasions but she insists she only means well. She also thinks it may be a case of insecurity.

“Maybe if you’re smart, you get accused of that,” Vanderpump told TIME. “Manipulated the audience into supporting me–maybe that’s their beef–or manipulated Bravo into giving me a spinoff when they haven’t. Maybe that comes into play–I don’t know. Aren’t we all, if we’re striving for something, manipulative? If they think that I’m sitting around thinking of how I can manipulate the dynamic between Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson, they’ve got another thing coming. I’m manipulative, but I’m going to manipulate something that’s important to me–not that bullsh*t.”
Vanderpump says she doesn’t want to be guilty of manipulating her co-stars on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills but being on a reality series fosters drama and difference in opinions. And if you’re not strong enough to hold your own, there’s big possibility that you’ll be manipulated by others.

“We’re making a show about six women with six different opinions,” Vanpderump continued. “That’s what makes a good show. Have your own opinion! I said to Yolanda [Foster] when she first came in: ‘I want to hear what you’ve got to say, not what I’ve got to say. I don’t need you to bolster me.’ Bring your own sh*t. If you can be manipulated by me, well, shame on you. That means you’re manipulable! Like [Lisa] Rinna last season: ‘She made me say that.’ No, I didn’t! You said it of your own volition. Own it! If I could manipulate her, I would. Go get me a cup of tea, Rinna!”
Having mentioned Rinna’s name, it’s safe to say that things aren’t going to be rosy for the two Lisas of the Bravo series. Vanpderump even teased previously that she couldn’t help but clash with the soap actress this season. “I kind of took away the power from her because I felt — I don’t want to say attacked — that she just kept coming at me and was so aggressive and I suddenly kind of managed to brush it off and now I just can’t help have a little poke at her,” Vanderpump said of Rinna.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 7 premieres Tuesday, December 6 at 8/9c on Bravo.
