Biography
Canadian actor Corey Haim was born on December 23, 1971 in Toronto, Ontario. The son of a computer operator and a sales representative, he was raised in a French-speaking family of Jewish and Israeli descent. When he was young, his mother had him take acting lessons in order to help cope with his shyness. However, he wasn’t initially very interested in acting, enjoying other hobbies instead such as playing the keyboard, collecting comic books, and playing ice hockey. He appeared in a number of television commercials, encouraged by his sister Carol, who also auditioned at one point for a movie role. However, his parents divorced when he was eleven years old.
Haim went on to perform in a number of films, such as Silver Bullet, Murphy’s Romance, and Firstborn. His starring turn in Lucas alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder was critically acclaimed, and he later went on to partner with Corey Feldman in a string of teen-oriented flicks. Among these were License to Drive, Dream a Little Dream, and The Lost Boys. However, he also began contending with a serious drug addiction problem, which adversely affected his career and had him in and out of rehab repeatedly. He also filed for bankruptcy at one point, before eventually re-emerging clean. Haim is slated to star with Feldman in the upcoming reality series based on their partnership in the 80s, likewise titled The Two Coreys.
