On The Vampire Diaries there are nine Original vampires, two parents and their seven children. Viewers have already met Klaus and two of his siblings, Elijah and Rebekah. Now it’s time to meet the mother.
According to TVGuide, Alice Evans has been cast as Esther, the mother of the Originals who will first be seen in the eighth episode of season 3 in flashbacks. Evans is a British actress most recognizable to American TV fans as the younger version of Daniel Faraday’s mom Eloise Hawking on Lost. She is also the wife of Ioan Gruffudd, who currently stars on another CW show, Ringer.
Klaus definitely has some serious mommy issues since Esther had an affair with a werewolf, making Klaus the only illegitimate son of the family. She is now the fourth official Original on The Vampire Diaries, though it seems more than possible that Michael (Sebastian Roche’s character seen hunting down Klaus in the 1920s) will turn out to be the father of the Originals.
The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8pm on the CW.
