The Vampire Diaries just successfully wrapped up its first season but the hype surrounding the shocking finale remains a water cooler topic among the show’s cast and its fans. Judging from the cast’s reactions below, it looks like viewers weren’t the only ones who got shocked at the end of “Founder’s Day.”
“It was a bonkers finale,” Candice Accola, whose character Caroline’s fate is still unknown after getting into a car accident, tells MTV.
Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena and vampire Katherine, share the same sentiments with her co-star. “I remember sitting in bed reading the script, and when I got towards the end it was so [crazy]. Every single episode of The Vampire Diaries, I feel I am always shocked and surprised,” she says. “This one being the finale has to exceed all expectations and go above and beyond. And I think it does, and it’s crazy and fun, and I had a lot of fun being crazy and doing bad things.”

Season 2 Updates
Meanwhile, here are some updates for the second season of The Vampire Diaries. As far as new episodes are concerned, producer Julie Plec has tweeted, “Here’s what I know: Rerunning all summer. DVD in August. Season 2 in early September. As we get official dates, we’ll share.”

Katherine’s Return
Ian Somerhalder tells Zap2it that Katherine’s arrival in Mystic Falls will probably not just rock his character Damon’s world but Stefan’s life as well. “I honestly don’t know, because I haven’t really spoken to Kevin [Williamson] about how she becomes intertwined back into this for both Damon and Stefan. Because, don’t kid yourself, Stefan is just as in love with Katherine as Damon was, if not more. I mean, they both see her faults and sort of despise her in this weird way, but they both are so wrapped up in her at the same time. You know, she was their Creator. She was their lover. They thought she was their soulmate. She embodied all these roles for them, so when she comes back, I think it’s going to knock the hell out of both of them.”

Damon’s Feelings for Elena
When asked if Stefan should be worried about Damon’s feelings burgeoning for Elena, Somerhalder says yes. “It seems to me that it would even the score between them, since Damon truly believes that Stefan is the reason Katherine was taken from him. So taking Elena from Stefan would probably even the playing field. Damon probably won’t rest until he’s gotten Elena,” he explains.
