NBC has announced that three former coaches will be making their return to The Voice, but not as judges. Who’s coming back and what are their roles?
Cee Lo Green, Gwen Stefani and Usher will all be stopping by The Voice as advisers for the Top 8, and we’ll get to see these mentoring sessions during the April 27 episode. The only coach who won’t be appearing is Shakira, who was a coach for two seasons.

The Voice has brought on a lot of celebrity advisers over the years to help guide the contestants, but this is a big deal to bring on not just a former coach, but three of them at the same time.
What’s even more surprising, though, is that Cee Lo Green has been invited back to the show. He announced in February 2014, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, that he was leaving The Voice for good and would not be returning as a coach. Many people believe he took this proactive step before NBC was able to fire him, since he was involved in some big controversies including being charged with giving ecstasy to a woman, though he was cleared of the sexual assault accusation.
It is unclear at the moment if any of these three will perform during the following night’s results show.

Cee Lo is almost done with his latest album, which is set to be released in the fall. He was one of the original Voice coaches, from seasons 1-3, and then returning for season 5. Gwen, who has only been a coach for one season, is also planning a new album for later in the year.
Two-time coach and one-time winner Usher will be making his mark on the big screen this year when he stars as Sugar Ray Leonard in Hands of Stone (in theaters on October 30), a biopic about boxer Roberto Duran.
Are you excited to see Cee Lo, Gwen and Usher as advisers? And are you hoping some of them return as coaches in the fall?
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
