Comic-Con is a great place for the networks to make headlines for their shows. For AMC’s The Walking Dead, that meant not only finding out the premiere date but also finally getting to see the first trailer for season 6.
The highly-anticipated sixth season of The Walking Dead will premiere with a 90-minute episode on Sunday, October 11 at 9pm on AMC.

But even more exciting than that is the debut of the season 6 trailer. It clocks in at over four minutes. There’s plenty of zombie action — as if we doubted there would be — with many of the core cast getting their chance to take them down. We also see a lot of the characters turning on Rick (“Rick is dangerous” … “I know Rick, I could stop him”).
At Comic-Con, fans found out that the 90 minutes isn’t the only huge thing about the premiere. The episode will also feature well over 600 zombie extras! That is the largest number that the show has seen since the pilot.

Also from the Comic-Con Panel:
— If anyone is hoping for some flashbacks in season 6, then you’re in luck. Executive producer Scott Gimple said that there will definitely be a lot of flashbacks (including a flashback episode), particularly in the first half of the season.
— Some people to look forward include Ethan Embry in the premiere and Merritt Wever sometime during the season. Wever’s character is someone fans of the comics will know, though it’s not being announced right now. Speaking of casting, producers attempted to hire someone from The Wire, but they weren’t able to make it work.
— Gimple also revealed that “the wolves will be involved in season 6, hopefully in a way that you don’t expect.”
— Lennie James said, “Morgan and Rick have a particular kind of man-love [and] there will be fallout” from how they reunited. Gimple acknowledges that the above trailer might bend the truth a little bit in its editing, including when it comes to Rick versus Morgan.
— About not killing Nicholas, Steven Yeun said, “Glenn is a better person than me. If he crosses that line, it’s game over for him.” Also: “Glenn was trying to save any part of the old world that he could.”
— Andrew Lincoln misses the beard: “I’m going to grow it back as soon as possible.” Gimple added on to that by saying Rick’s beard is a “metric of where Rick is at. … The beard will continue to be a barometer” for Rick and his state of mind.
— Sonequa Martin-Green, when talking about Sasha’s recovery, said, “I hope there’s a light at the end of the tunnel” after hitting rock bottom.
— Michael Cudlitz on Abraham: His “defining moment is yet to come.”
— Melissa McBride on Carol: “Everything is fueled by the loss of people. That’s why [Carol] does what she does.” Speaking of Carol, Gurira wants more interactions between her and Michonne.
— Norman Reedus said that Daryl is in his “safe place” being with the Alexandrians, but “that gets tested” this season. Also: “There’s a little bit of darkness that pops up all the time.”
