Show creator William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell have always focused on the fictional version of Genoa City, Wisconsin, a town near their annual vacation home in Lake Geneva, for their daytime drama series
The Young and the Restless. Soon, however, they'll be presenting viewers with a change of scenery as they bring the show to Paris, France.
The Young and the Restless will be shooting in Paris for the soap's first-ever, on-location shoot in the City of Lights, in line with the program's upcoming 20th anniversary in France. And while the specific actors participating in the Parisian storyline are yet to be confirmed, the week of filming is scheduled for October this year.
The show premiered in 1973 and originally focused on the personal and professional lives of two core families in Genoa City, the wealthy Brooks clan and the poor Fosters. Following a series of recasts and departures in the early 1980s, most of the original characters were written out and the show shifted to the Abbotts, the Newmans, and the Williamses. One basic plot that has run throughout almost all of the show's history is the rivalry between Jill Abbott and Katherine Chancellor.
At present,
The Young and the Restless is one of the highest-rated daytime drama on American television. As of 2008, it has appeared at the top of the Nielsen Ratings in that category for more than 1,000 weeks since 1988, and has won seven Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, earning second place to ABC's
General Hospital, which has won 10 times.
In line with the program's success in the ratings, the series has been picked up by other countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, Germany, Greece, India, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Poland, Republic of Macedonia, Italy and France, which screens the show on TF1 as
Les Feux de l'amour.
