The Television Critics Association has revealed its list of winner for the 2014 TCA Awards. True Detective and Veep, both on HBO, not only came away as the big winners but were the only two shows to score multiple wins.
True Detective won for Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials, with star Matthew McConaughey taking home the prize for Individual Achievement in Drama. Veep, on the other hand, tied with Louie in the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy category, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus won Individual Achievement in Comedy. The Good Wife was recognized on the drama side.
Orange is the New Black may have lost out on Program of the Year, but it won for Outstanding New Program, beating out the likes of Fargo, Sleepy Hollow and True Detective. So what TV show won for Program of the Year? None other than Breaking Bad, which aired its final season last year.
Other TCA winners include RuPaul’s Drag Race (winning over The Amazing Race, Shark Tank and The Voice), The Fosters and Cosmos.
The TCA Awards also gives out the Heritage Award, which honors TV shows that have had a cultural or social impact on society. Lost, South Park, Star Trek and Twin Peaks were all nominated, but the award went to Saturday Night Live. And James Burrows, who competed against Mark Burnett, Valerie Harper, Jay Leno and William Shatner, won the Career Achievement Award.
