On April Fools Day last week, I noticed something significant when it came to the news surrounding the Twilight camp. If you’re like me, you have Google alerts set up for Twilight, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (at the very least) and you browse though article after article looking for some new awesome piece of information to fulfill this Twilight void in your heart – rereading the books over and over again can only do so much for a girl. But, if you’re like me and you keep up with the Twilight news everyday, you might’ve noticed something: almost all Twilight articles are fake gossip rumors or one of fifteen stories written on the same subject.
So, April Fools Day passed like any other in the Twilight news realm. I glanced at the titles and then quickly dismissed them as just another hoax in a long line of hoaxes. When it comes to being an actual Twilight fan, these so-called Twilight reporters are starting to frustrate me quite a bit with their simple yet repetitive tactics. I’ll go over a few here.
What lengths will they go to in order to include Robert Pattinson’s name in the title of an article?
I read articles every day that have absolutely nothing to do with Robert Pattinson. Just today, I read a blurb about Nikki Reed going to Sushi in LA with her friends even though the article had Pattinson’s name in the title. I’ve read articles that didn’t even relate to Twilight or any of the cast members that used Robert Pattinson’s name to get fans to visit the site.
Rob rumors, although sometimes fun, can strive to be malicious just to get fans riled up.
So evidently Robert Pattinson leads a quiet life that just isn’t good enough for the overactive media. “There’s literally not a single [true] story that could be written about me,” he says. “I never do anything.” But people want every little Rob detail possible, so they start making up controversial stories. For instance, it came out that Robert Pattinson had been stinking up the set of New Moon due to his lack of showering. Turns out, according to Rob, “I haven’t even been on the set yet!”
Crazy Twilight hookups aren’t happening, but “sources” seem to report new ones each week.
Obviously some fans would love Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson to hook up, but Kristen is in a long-term relationship with Michael Arangano so it’s not going to happen. After Kristen came out to specifically explain the Rob hook-up rumors and said, “It’s just totally false… Rob and I are good friends. We went through a lot together, so we feel very close. But if we go out in public, every little detail is scrutinized, like the way I stand next to him. And it’s like, I know this guy really well [laughs]. It’s only natural that we’re sort of leaning on each other, because we’re put in the most psychotic situations.” People got bored of the Rob and Kristen speculation so they moved onto Rob and Nikki Reed rumors. Nikki Reed visits Rob’s place so they obviously hooked up, right? Wrong. There are even plenty of Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed rumors. Until you give me proof, I don’t want to read about it.
I’m sure there are plenty other fake stories out there. The only real stories come by once in a blue (new) moon and then every media outlet under the sun puts their own spin on it. Ninety percent of the writers haven’t read the Twilight series. Long story short, I’m tired of Twilight news for now. I cannot wait until real reports from the set of New Moon come out.
Luckily, I’m working on snagging a trip to the set and in May, I’ll be visiting Forks. That’ll keep my Twilight-centric brain busy for a while.
What do you think? Are you fed up with the Twilight news? Do you still like reading Rob stories even though they might be fake? What do you think?
