Two and a Half Men has always been fueled by testosterone, but that’s all about to change. There’s a new Manny in town on Modern Family. And get ready for a Cheers reunion on CSI. Read on to find out all the details, plus casting news on Anger Management, Drop Dead Diva, Revolution, Hart of Dixie, The Mindy Project, The Following and NCIS.
Amber Tamblyn is Charlie’s illegitimate daughter on Two and a Half Men: The character of Jenny, who also happens to be gay, will head to LA for an acting career and ends up staying with Alan. She’ll show up in five episodes next season (starting with the premiere on September 26), and if everything goes well, she could become a co-lead with Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher. She’s essentially replacing Angus T. Jones, who will no longer be a series regular.
Laura Bell Bundy as the new female lead on Anger Management: While Charlie Sheen’s old show is adding a female lead, his current FX comedy has just added their own new female lead. Bundy will play Dr. Jordan Denby, Charlie’s new sex-study research partner, according to The Hollywood reporter. Not only did this character go through a divorce recently, but she’s definitely not opposed to alcohol — quite the opposite — and Charlie has to deal with her mood swings.
A new manny on Modern Family: Manny Delgado better watch out — there’s a new manny in town. Okay, he’s actually a male nanny (played by Adam DeVine), hired by Gloria to take care of her baby. This is a recurring role for DeVine, TV Guide reports. Executive producer Christopher Lloyd says this character is “fun and matches Gloria’s energy in the house. But he doesn’t want to just take care of the baby. He wants to sort of revive the entire household, which leads to some territorial clashes with Jay and Manny.”
A Cheers reunion on CSI: In our last Casting Bits, we mentioned that John Ratzenberger would be guest starring on Bones. But that won’t be the only drama he shows up on this fall. EW notes that he’s also set to appear on CSI in October, playing a club owner whose business goes up in flames. And yes, he’ll be sharing scenes with Ted Danson, and we know what that means — a Cheers reunion!
Wallace Langham is ready to audit Drop Dead Diva: Speaking of CSI, the man behind quirky David Hodges has signed on for a role on the Lifetime dramedy, where’s he’ll play Lester Tuttle, an auditor whose secret agenda may end up hurting Harrison & Parker. Executive producer Josh Berman told TV Guide, “Wally has a warped sense of humor that lends itself perfectly to this role.” His first episode will be the the summer finale on August 11, but don’t worry, he’ll be back in the fall.
Steven Culp joins Revolution: Culp, who many of us know from Desperate Housewives (and who appeared on Grey’s Anatomy last year) is joining the NBC hit as Edward, a respected authority figure. Not much else is known about his role right now, but Deadline reports that he’s expected to appear in multiple episodes in season 2.
Ryan McPartlin to guest star on Hart of Dixie: The former Chuck star is stopping by Bluebell as Carter Covington, who’s a very charming man — and he just so happens to be an eligible bachelor. He’ll appear in one episode next season, according to TV Guide.
Glenn Howerton goes from Sunny to Mindy: The man behind It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (both in front of and behind the camera) has a recurring role on The Mindy Project; he’ll play Cliff Gilbert, an attorney who woos Mindy Lahiri when they first meet in episode four of season 2, as reported by E! Online. Other big guest stars to look forward to include James Franco, Adam Pally, Kris Humphries, Bill Hader, Anders Holm and Chloe Sevigny.
Sam Underwood on The Following: He can currently be seen on Dexter, but he’ll soon show up on the FOX drama in a series regular role. His character is Luke, who’s dangerous and, as noted by TVLine, “may or may not be a follower of the ‘late’ Joe Carroll.” Does this have you intrigued for season 2 of The Following?
Roma Maffia has a history with Gibbs on NCIS: During an October episode, the Nip/Tuck alum will guest star as Special Agent Vera Strickland who’s about to retire. Executive producer Gary Glasberg told TV Guide, “Roma Maffia is a wonderful actress who fits this role perfectly. Considered ‘one of the boys,’ her character goes all the way back to NIS and Mike Franks. We couldn’t be happier to have Roma for this very fun episode.”
